Gautrain faults to be probed

Johannesburg - Electrical faults that disrupted the Gautrain in recent weeks will be investigated, the Gautrain Management Agency and the Bombela Concession Company said on Monday.

'Over the last three weeks, we have not met the customer expectations with respect to reliability and are dedicated to doing several things better,' spokesperson Barbara Jensen said.

'We will report fully on the causes and solutions to the problems when the investigation is complete.'

The company was busy diagnosing the underlying causes of the service interruptions and were instituting measures to resolve them.

'In the week of October 24 to 30 there were problems related to the way the trains receive their power from the overhead catenary lines and a rolling stock failure that caused three trains to stop between stations and thus stranding passengers,' Jensen said.

'On November 1, it was again an electrical fault that caused the section between Sandton and Rosebank to remain closed for several hours.'

Jensen said while this investigation was underway, immediate steps were being taken in a bid to eliminate or significantly reduce future incidents.

She said the companies sincerely regretted the recent incidences and wished to apologise to all the customers who were affected by these delays and disruptions
